
For the past six years I have grown as a remarkable athlete. I always find to question myself what bas been the reason of my success. Some can say it is my persevering attitude when we are doing conditioning as a team on the soccer field. Others would say it was my many extra hours spend doing goal training. Some might also even argue that it was my coaches or that I was blessed to have the attributes of a talented goalkeeper. I would say all of these come into play, but if it weren’t for my foundation of pilates, starting at age eleven, I wouldn’t be the athlete I am today.
As soon as I was tall enough to use the pilates apparatus, at age eleven, the road to my success would be mapped. I trained two times a week on the reformer, with Sandee Lea as my trainer, pushing me beyond my body’s limits. She strengthens my core, built up muscle in my quads doing jump board, and hit all the intrinsic muscles in my arms and glutes that regular weight lifting would never do. She even pushed me to my cardio limits on the indoor cycle bike, to a point that I never knew I could reach. With all of this extra training coming into play, I started noticing my play of soccer became different. I was getting faster by always being in the top five when conditioning with my team. My body was stronger; I could jump higher and my goal kicks and punts were going farther. Even my mind changed; I became more focused and at ease while I played. Pilates was a tremendous attribute to my success as a goalkeeper.
Along with pilates came egoscue which led to me being even more successful that I couldn’t of dreamt about. With being a goalkeeper and diving a lot, the impact started to take a toll on my body. My knees, hips, shoulders, back, and the cramping of my claves started hurt so bad, even just getting up from bed in the morning was very painful. And, the saddest part was that I thought was all normal to feel this way. When Sandee was taking her egoscue certification she needed a case study, and she so kindly chose me. She found out how much pain I was in and felt very concerned that a fourteen-year-old girl could feel this way. With the help of egoscue and my very precise e-menus prescribed by Sandee to realign my body, I am now 100% Pain Free! My body does get out of alignment every now and then, but with Sandee’s help being my postural therapy coach, she always knows what I need to do to get me back feeling good again in a matter of a few minutes.
Without pilates or egoscue, I would not be the athlete I am today. Training at A Pilates Studio is always entertaining, educational, friendly and inviting. Sandee Lea is one of the most inspirational women I know, I would recommend this hidden treasure to anyone. I believe all athletes should have access to what I have had and I guarantee great results will come from it.
